The AFCECO Board of Directors have defined strategic plans for 2010 and beyond that focus on some high priority projects that will reshape the lives of hundreds of children who are in desperate need. These plans have been categorized into Long-term Goals and Short-term Goals and are briefly been described below with their estimated budgets: I. Long-term Goals: These are high level projects that have permanent affects and make infrastructure for our orphanage programs. Initially, we are looking for to raise fund for the start-up costs and we expect to cover the operating costs from sponsorships. 1.Residential Compound for Children: The toughest part of our job so far has been to find a good place for the children in our care. With our limited budget and exorbitant house rental costs this has proven to be a major, and recurring, difficulty. For that reason, the need to build our own structure has remained at the top of our list of priorities. But, to date, we have not been successful, despite continuous efforts to raise such funds or to get a grant for this purpose. What AFCECO needs is a relatively big compound with the following: a library, conference hall, computer labs, a health clinic and a gymnasium with swimming pool, along with enough bedrooms to house large number of children comfortably. Here is our proposed budget breakdown for this start up cost of this compound: Option A: Residential Compound for at least 200 children: $1,500,000
Option B: Residential Compound for at least 100 children: $800,000

The low standard of education in government-run schools has been an ongoing problem in our attempts to provide truly high quality opportunities for the children. We believe that quality education is as important food and shelter for the children if we are to achieve our goals of preparing them to be independent adults and leaders in their communities

Child Health Center: Poor health facilities and the high cost of medical treatment in Afghanistan, lack of health insurance for our children and the prevalence of serious diseases such as Hepatitis B have made us aware of the necessity for a health center for our orphanage children. The estimated budget for this health center is:

Short-term Goals: These are relatively small projects that expand orphanages and add more taste to the ongoing programs for children. 1. Expansion of Orphanages: Undoubtedly, the large number of orphans and poor children in Afghanistan is a major problem confronting this country. And while we will never be able to care for all those who need the kind of environment we provide, our dream is to have orphanage facilities in many, if not all, provinces.
2. Gymnasium: Physical exercise for children, particularly for older girls is necessary to make sure they remain healthy, both physically and psychologically. Unfortunately, girls in Afghanistan are completely denied this vital need. For security reasons, they cannot play outdoors; nor do they have access to any gymnasium for indoor sports and play. We would like to create a well-equipped gymnasium inside the orphanage itself. The estimated budget for this project is:

Having them living and working with the younger children, as they do now, is far from ideal. It is clear that they need special attention, advanced instruction, and a proper environment as they prepare themselves for post-high school education. Our plan is to have a small house for 15-20 boys and another for 20-25 girls. Both of these should have facilities and personnel suitable for serious educational goals.

Special programs for children: In addition to their regular classes, we would like some special programs for children like computer education, advanced English language, art and music classes. The budget for each of these programs are as follows:
