 AFCECO’s Top Priorities in 2009

1. Winter Program: Schools in Kabul remain closed until the end of March for the winter break and majority of the

children are going to stay in the orphanage during this period. To help keep the children busy and to utilize their time in a better way, we have prepared a comprehensive Winter Program that includes various classes like learning very basic computer skills, English language and school subjects.

Unfortunately, the standard of education in Afghanistan ’s public schools where our children study is extremely low. These three months will be a good chance for the children to get a better hold on academic school subjects and to prepare for the new academic year. In addition, they will have the extra advantage of extra studies of computer and English.

It is worth mentioning that this Program is only for the three orphanages located in Kabul , the other locations will have their long break in the summer. We have roughly estimated that the Winter Program would cost us around USD $5000, of which we are to pay for the salary and transportation of 3 teachers, stationary and 6 computers.

    Our Goal: $5000.00

2.Vaccination: Epidemic outbreaks of lethal diseases like Hepatitis among the children in Afghanistan , particularly in Kabul where the living environments are defined as being the worse, threaten the lives of our children in the orphanages. Feeling this threat, we plan to vaccinate all the children in Afghanistan and Pakistan orphanages. There are currently 285 children and the cost of vaccination per child is USD $27, and total cost for all children is USD $7,700.00. For more information on this program, please visit this link on our website:

Note: Doffie Rotter, USA , began as a sponsor of a single child and has gradually built an extended family with 10 sponsored children and the funding of new library project and now had donated $6290 for vaccination.

3. Startup Costs of New Orphanage: As the Child Sponsorship Program expands and the number of sponsored children increases, we are to make preliminary plans for a new orphanage that will add space, to house and educate more children. Establishing a new orphanage requires an initial budget to cover all the startup costs. These costs include beds, blankets, rugs, house appliances, kitchen utensils, children needs etc. In total, we need USD $16000.00 for the startup costs of a new orphanage, which includes 6 months house rent.

If you want to help with starting a new orphanage, you can become a Founding Sponsor:

Rose Vines, a sponsor from LA was our latest Founding Sponsor, who raised $16000 for a new orphanage in Kabul established in October 2008. Here is more information about this: http://afceco.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=42&Itemid=1

4. Sport Items: We encourage all the children to do physical exercise of their choice and fortunately we find all of them very interested in doing this. Girls prefer light sports like badminton and table tennis while boys are very fond of football (soccer). Unfortunately, there are no facilities like a play ground for the children to play outside. Boys play soccer in open spaces that wear out their shoes very quickly. Since sport items, particularly shoes are very expensive in Afghanistan , it becomes almost unaffordable for us to pay for their sport items.

5. Orphanage Wish List on amazon.com: In addition to the general needs of our children, we require certain items for the administrative purposes and for two-way communication. We can very much use a photo printer, digital camera and computer accessories. We have created a wish list on Amazon.com and if you like to help us in this regard:
