Poya

Poya, lovingly called “Hasina” comes from a remote village in Nangarhar that was torn apart by Taliban and ISIS control. Life became impossible there—families fled their homes and were forced to live in tents in the desert with nothing to eat. In desperation, her father asked AFCECO to take in Hasina and her brother Khaled so they would not starve.

In 2019, Hasina and Khaled joined AFCECO, where they finally found safety, food, and the chance to go to school. Hasina loves her pens and books, enjoys playing chess and football, and dreams of becoming a teacher one day. Today, she lives in an AFCECO’s home in Islamabad, surrounded by care and hope for a brighter future. She attends an international private school and in 2025 she went to 5th grade.
